Stephane Way – Chief Executive Officer
As the Founder & CEO of North Orca Technologies, Stephane Way is responsible for running all facets of the business. With over 30 years experience, he is no stranger to the technology industry. In 1981, while a young teen, Stephane was the first person to have a computer in the small town of Fermont (near Labrador City, NL) having built his Sinclair ZX81 from a kit. A few years later he filed a patent (pending) for a tilt-sensitive switch designed for portable alarms. In 1986, after attending Universite de Sherbrooke, PQ, Stephane began his professional career working for cutting edge companies including IBM Canada Laboratory Ltd. in North York, ON, Hummingbird Communications Ltd in Markham, ON, and MPR TelTech in Burnaby, BC.
Mr. Way received his Pilot’s License in 1995, sparking the desire to integrate his love of flying and his professional career, Rainbow Navigation Ltd. was created in 1996. The first project was the EFIS 2000, an innovative electronic kneeboard based on the Apple Newton MessagePad. Released as a prototype in 1997, EFIS 2000 was a first for an integrated flight management and navigation system for general aviation pilots. Sadly, it was never marketed due to Apple’s decision to discontinue the manufacturing of the Newton in early 1998. From this project an opportunity for modernizing training schools surfaced and, in 1998 created GenAv Systems Ltd. with the goal to develop a student record and analysis system called ASTAR (Aviation Student Tracking Analysis and Reporting). Focusing on addressing training scheduling for general aviation and airlines, GenAv Systems moved in beside its first client, the Victoria Flying Club. In 2005, GenAv signed a contract with its first airline, WestJet of Calgary, AB.
As development moved into new industries, EvBase Technologies Inc. was born in 2013 and continue to grow becoming North Orca Technologies Inc. in 2017 and is still based at the Victoria International Airport in North Saanich, BC.
